The courtroom exploded the moment I finished speaking.

Gasps turned into outright shouts of outrage. Phones shot higher into the air as people desperately tried to capture every second of the unfolding drama for their live streams. The hatred in the room felt alive — a heavy, suffocating presence pressing down on me from every direction, hungry for blood.

“You heartless bitch!” Elena Voss screamed, pointing at me with a shaking, accusatory finger. “My daughter is up there reliving the worst night of her life, and you’re sitting there smirking about your precious stock prices? You don’t even care that she’s broken!”

Sophia’s tears came faster now, genuine panic mixing with her carefully practiced performance. “He ruined my life! I was going to be a model. I had real bookings lined up — campaigns, photoshoots, everything. Your son destroyed my face, my future, my entire world!”

Marcus Hale rushed to her side, placing a protective hand on her shoulder while glaring pure daggers at me. “Take a breath, Sophia. The court sees exactly what’s happening here. This woman has zero empathy, zero humanity.”

The gallery was feeding off the raw energy like sharks scenting blood in the water.

“Rich people are all the same!” a woman yelled from the back, her voice shaking with righteous fury. “They think money fixes everything — even rape!”

“Her son probably thinks he can rape whoever he wants because Mommy will just write a check to make it go away.”

“That spoiled little shit deserves to rot in prison for the rest of his life!”

I remained perfectly still, my expression unchanged, even as the venom poured over me in waves. Every insult, every hateful glare, every comment calling my son a “trust-fund monster” and a “disgusting rich brat” only made the coming moment sweeter, sharper, more delicious.

Because they had absolutely no idea what was coming.

Sophia wiped her eyes dramatically and continued, her voice trembling with fresh fear. “It wasn’t even the first time. Ever since they moved into the neighborhood, he’s been stalking me. At the community gym, by the pool, even lurking outside my house at night. The way he looked at me… it was predatory. Like he wanted to tear me apart piece by piece.”

More angry murmurs rippled through the room like wildfire.

“Fucking pervert!”

“He’s a threat to every single woman who lives here!”

“Lock him up before he hurts someone else — or worse!”

I kept my face blank as stone, but inside I was calmly cataloging every single hole in her rapidly unraveling story.

Stalking at the community gym?

My son had never once set foot inside that gym.

“Give me one name,” I said quietly, my voice cutting through the noise like a scalpel. “Just one witness who actually saw him there.”

Sophia opened her mouth, then closed it again. No name came. Not a single one.

Elena shot up from her seat once more, her face flushed dark red with fury. “That’s enough! You’re not going to humiliate my daughter like this in front of everyone!”

She yanked out her phone with dramatic flair, holding it up like a weapon. “You want proof? Fine — I have it right here. I started recording the moment I heard screaming that night.”

She connected the phone to the courtroom’s audio system with shaking hands.

The speakers crackled to life, filling the tense space with sound.

Heavy, labored breathing. A dull, sickening thud. Muffled, violent sounds. Then Sophia’s weak, whimpering voice: “No… please… stop…”

The entire room fell into a horrified, breathless silence.

Marcus nodded with grim, satisfied certainty. “That, ladies and gentlemen, is the raw audio from the night of the attack. You can hear the violence. The pain. An innocent young girl begging for her life.”

I listened carefully to every single detail — the breathing, the impacts, the background noise that didn’t belong.

“Could you play it again?” I asked calmly, my tone never rising.

Marcus narrowed his eyes suspiciously. “Why?”

“I want to hear the details more clearly.”

The recording played once more.

This time I focused entirely on the background. Breathing… thud… Sophia’s desperate cries…

And then — a clear, unmistakable bird call. A night thrush. A species that only sings deep in the night, well after midnight.

I stood up slowly and addressed the jury directly, my voice cutting like a blade through the thick tension.

“Ladies and gentlemen, please pay close attention to the bird call in the background of that recording. That is a night thrush. It only sings well after midnight, deep into the night.”

I turned to Sophia, whose face had gone deathly pale, all color draining away. “But you claimed the attack happened around six in the evening. Broad daylight. That bird doesn’t sing until long after dark.”

Sophia stammered desperately, “I… I might have gotten the time wrong…”

“Did you get the time wrong?” I asked coldly, each word precise. “Or is this recording not from that night at all?”
